What is monogamy in a relationship?

Monogamy is a relationship with only one partner at a time, rather than multiple partners.
A monogamous relationship can be sexual or emotional, but it's usually both.
Many modern relationships are monogamous. But even if they want to be with just one partner, some people have trouble staying monogamous.

Monogamy, after all, does not come naturally; it is not the norm unless a society enforces it as such.
There are immense benefits to doing so. But it is unclear how well we humans can achieve this aim in the present environment.

Are most men naturally polygamous?
Polygamy is not the desire for more partners. Men are not naturally polygamous, neither is a woman. Everyone desires more. Interestingly, polygamy only does apply to the married — a bachelor(rette) or a person in a monogamous marriage can't be polygamous — if anything, you're promiscuous.

Why do people like non-monogamy?
Meet Needs: For some people, one partner may not be able to meet all their needs, and they may find that through ethical non-monogamy they are able to find ways to meet their needs in a respectful way.
These needs could be physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, and more.

My belief is that humans are not meant to be monogamous. Monogomy was set by organized religion and through societal laws.  Polygamous usually includes several wives for a man a MMF relationship is rarer.  However I think MMF attraction is higher than known.

Polygamy is being married to more than one person at the same time, whereas polyamory involves both married partners having the freedom to have relationships outside their primary relationship.

Polyamorous relationships are not illegal, but polygamy is illegal in many parts of the world, including the United States.

My wife and I were married 20 years when we discovered ENM(Ethical Non Monogamy).
5 years ago we realized no matter how much we loved each other, we could not be everything sexual every time to each other. That's when we discovered the lifestyle and compersion. That was five years ago. The lifestyle allows us to free ourselves to explore and experience sexual freedom on our terms and not what society and religion what have us do.
We celebrate compersion which gives us joy for each other.

The common usage of "natural" is anything not having to do with humans, so I'm not sure what that question means: humans outside society? But humans are social beings: To consider them outside society would be unnatural. The fact that monogamy is universal is a sign that it is "natural".

Monogamy sure hasn't worked for me in the long term
 When the sex dried up on medical grounds, the other partner is isolated from sexual gratification except a sly pull occasionally. It has me wishing I'd stayed single or at least found a spouse who would be into ethical non monogamy. At 71, I can't start again. My unwell wife needs me.

For many of us, When we enter into a relationship it is monogamous. During this stage your relationship is anchored in building trust and devotion to one another. Nothing wrong with that, accepted society and religion norms get in the way and brain washing sets in. They control your ability to live out your desires.
 That said, Sexually speaking, Once a married couple realize they can not be everything every time to each other in bed, it allows them to explore ethical non monogamy. It took us over 20 years to discover this fact. Now we have sex with other couples for fun and our health,  both physical and mentally. Think about it. Before religion and society, sex was primal, for procreation and fun.
We love our ethical non monogamous relationship.
