Fears of panic buying as Britons urged to stockpile food and water: Retailers warn of a return to pandemic-like bulk-buying as government launches campaign to prepare public for power cuts, cyber attacks and floods

    Have you started stockpiling?

Retailers have today warned families against pandemic-like panic buying, as the government has revealed a survival kit you can build to prepare for emergencies.

Items including a battery or wind-up torch, bottled water, non-perishable food, baby supplies and a first aid kit are deemed essential to have at home when a crisis hits.

It comes as Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden will today advise people to make contingency plans for dealing with potential emergencies to help build 'national resilience' and ease pressure on emergency services.

Last year, Mr Dowden said people should stock up on 'analogue capabilities', such as candles, torches and wind-up radios, to boost their 'personal resilience'.

Today, he will go further by encouraging people to stock up with enough food and water to survive for three days without leaving their homes.

But retailers have warned families against pandemic-like panic buying, which saw shelves cleared of toilet paper and pasta, and have instead encouraged people to build their kit over time.

These are the 'green flags' women look for in a man's home when they visit for the first time - and most fail the test

Women reveal the green flags they look for in men's homes

Women have revealed the top 'green flags' they look for in a man's apartment - and a bathroom bin and a spice rack top the list.

In contrast to a 'red flag', a 'green flag' is a positive trait or sign that indicates somebody is worth spending time with or dating long-term.

A clean bathroom with a bin, food in the fridge, and evidence of hobbies were all highly commended but those with poor hygiene practices and only one towel were deemed an immediate 'no-go'.

Women shared that while these standards were 'extremely low', many men were still unable to meet the bare minimum.

General bathroom hygiene

'Hand towels, hand soap, and a bin with a lid in the bathroom,'.

'The toilet smelling fine and no signs of pee anywhere. General clean house. Sheets that haven't been used for so long you can tell it's been ages since they were last changed,'.

While having a bin in the bathroom was important for many women, a man admitted it never occurred to him to use one.

'The only garbage I ever generated inside a bathroom was used toilet paper, to be flushed. I'd occasionally swap out my toothbrush and razor but I'd just toss them in the room bin,' he said.

Spare clean towels

Men who don't have multiple towels - including hand towels to use after you wash your hands - are considered red flags.

'I had someone offer me their single, slightly-damp towel, as my post-shower option. He had no other towels; not a single one. I asked,' a woman revealed.

'If you have overnight guests keep several nice bath towels, wash cloths and hand towels,' she added.

Several claimed while they appreciated tidy homes, the space also 'must' have character.

'The home should look lived in and have evidence of hobbies,' one said. 'Books, gaming set up, model constructions, Legos, puzzles, board games, instruments.'

'I don't like an immaculate house, I like to see some mail out there and if there are few dishes in the sink that's fine. I like to see people who are comfortable enough in themselves to show they are human beings with busy lives,' another added.

Stocked spice racks and food in the fridge are a green flag

Similarly, a specific kind of art on walls is also considered a green flag.

'Empty walls are creepy but walls with generic art for the sake of it feels borderline sociopathic and makes me wonder what mask you're wearing. Anime and nerdy stuff are all preferable to nothing or things that don't tell me anything about you.'

What's the biggest red flag?

Dirty bathroom
No clean towels
Bland home with no character
Empty kitchen because he doesn't cook
Dead house plants
Stocked spice rack and food in the fridge

'Every guy I dated who had an assortment of spices knew how to cook, cooked at home and didn't eat takeout all the time, and didn't expect me to do all the cooking. It was an equitable split,' a woman wrote.

Another said it was essential to have 'sane food' like vegetables and fruit.

'It doesn't matter if you can't cook or can't afford much, you can have a bunch of gremlin food as long as there's some normal stuff to balance it out.'
Real house plants

Many claimed that a man having potted plants at home was a 'green flag' because it showed patience.

'Plants are the next best thing to having a pet. Plants need care, they're alive, and having one (or many) shows that there is a nurturing side to them,' a woman said.

Strange luminous 'rods' have been caught on camera in the skies over several South American countries in the past month.
The long white and blue objects appeared to slowly float across the sky in videos filmed by residents of Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
Often a string of lights about as bright as stars, moving slowly across the sky, will be mistaken for a true UFO when it is in fact Starlink, the network of satellites launched by Elon Musk's company SpaceX.

But usually those lights will appear as distinct dots in a line, rather than a solid cylinder, and will not appear to change color.

Men who are sexually inactive can experience a very rare condition called penile atrophy - where penile tissue can become less elastic causing it to shrink by one to two centimeters.
Also that going a month or more without having sex may cause men and women to experience increased stress levels due to sexual frustration, anxiety, depression and anger issues.

It can cause other psychological impacts and more make people more prone to infidelity.
Abstaining from sex can cause temporary and long-term issues from developing anxiety and anger issues to severe medical conditions and relationship issues

Despite the positive attachment to sex, a 2021 California University study found that 38 percent of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 reported they hadn't had any sexual partners in the previous year.

Experts warned that not having sex over weeks, months or years can have harmful effects on the human body.

Most people need affection, touch and sexual connections with others and without it, your mental health could deteriorate, causing anxiety, depression and increased levels of stress.
All people are different and depending on the person's general mental health, the really extreme symptoms could develop within six months or take as long as five years.

Having sex releases feel-good hormones like oxytocin - also called the 'love hormone - dopamine and serotonin which regulate your emotions and boost your mood.

Dopamine is a chemical that the brain releases to make you feel pleasure, but if your body doesn't produce enough of it, you can develop insecurities and lower self-worth.
Couples who stop having sex could develop marital problems like dissatisfaction in the relationship that can lead to resentment, sexual infidelity, and divorce

A 2021 study suggested that people with unmet sexual needs can develop frustration that may lead to an increase in aggressive behavior.

This frustration can arise from the unfulfilled desire to have sex, not having an available partner or engaging in unsatisfying sexual activities which can lead to heightened irritability and mood swings.

It has led to an increase in 'the risks of aggression, violence, and crime associated with relief-seeking, power-seeking, revenge-seeking, and displaced frustration,' the study said.

If couples are experiencing a sex drought in their relationship, 'they don't approach their partner with softness, vulnerability and requests for compromise,'

'They also don't have the technique to repair conflicts and instead blame one another, pursue the other with continuous criticism, or elicit a guilty response in order to get their needs met.'

Going through a 'dry period' is normal, Cooper added, but going too long without sex can cause major problems with your partner.

'Sometimes one partner may ask to open up the relationship so they can get their needs met in an ethical manner, and other partners may just have an outside sexual infidelity to meet the needs,'

A 2021 California Health Interview Survey found that the number of young people abstaining from sex reached a record high, with 38 percent of people ages 18 to 30 saying they hadn't had any sexual partners in the last year.

This is compared to 22 percent of people who reported not having sex in a year from a decade earlier,

More extreme symptoms can arise from sex withdrawal including penile and vaginal atrophy, pain during sex, but added the caveat that this could take upwards of five years without sex to occur.

Men are at a higher risk of developing medical issues like penile atrophy and prostate cancer if they abstain from having sex for long time periods.

Researchers believe that carcinogens build up in the prostate over time, which increases the risk of cancer, but studies have found that ejaculation may prevent it because it flushes out the harmful chemicals that build up in the semen, according to the Urology Care Foundation.
An inactive sex life can cause penile atrophy was echoed by Tobias Kohler, and assistant professor of urology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine who told WebMD that without regular erections, the penis will become elastic and shrink.

The science behind how long it takes for penile atrophy to develop appears to still be up for debate.

A 2016 study found that men who ejaculated at least 21 times each month had a lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those who ejaculated just four to seven times a month.

Likewise, when a woman goes without sex for months, it can cause vaginal atrophy, making intercourse uncomfortable and sometimes painful.

Sexual activity increases the blood flow, lubrication and elasticity of vaginal tissues, but without it, a woman can develop vaginal atrophy - when the tissues become thin and dry - which can shorten the vaginal canal, making penetration more difficult.

People who are going through a lengthy sexual lull first address their stress levels because it impacts your ability to notice if 'someone piques our neurotic nerve endings.'

Whether you're a lover of darts, a football phenetic or a dedicated Taylor Swift fan, you may have fallen victim to 'disgusting' price hikes sweeping through events across the country.
While the price of a pint has shot up at many major sporting events and left fans raging, others have been hit by the skyrocketing cost of overnight stays, as hotel bosses cash in by raising fees when events are happening nearby.
Taylor Swift fans with tickets to the superstar's sold out Eras Tour have faced trebling hotel costs as bosses raise prices by 200 per cent when the singer is in town.
Meanwhile, football season ticket holders have been hammered by a string of price hikes for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Great points, Sandra.

In addition, in the US it's now virtually impossible to watch any sporting event on broadcast TV (non-subscription).  You have to sign up for either the league's service (MLB, NFL), or a partner platform (Amazon, Netflix).

To add insult to injury, paying to watch does not exclude ads, which are even more prevalent than before.

Grrrrrr
