These are the 'green flags' women look for in a man's home when they visit for the first time - and most fail the test

Women reveal the green flags they look for in men's homes

Women have revealed the top 'green flags' they look for in a man's apartment - and a bathroom bin and a spice rack top the list.

In contrast to a 'red flag', a 'green flag' is a positive trait or sign that indicates somebody is worth spending time with or dating long-term.

A clean bathroom with a bin, food in the fridge, and evidence of hobbies were all highly commended but those with poor hygiene practices and only one towel were deemed an immediate 'no-go'.

Women shared that while these standards were 'extremely low', many men were still unable to meet the bare minimum.

General bathroom hygiene

'Hand towels, hand soap, and a bin with a lid in the bathroom,'.

'The toilet smelling fine and no signs of pee anywhere. General clean house. Sheets that haven't been used for so long you can tell it's been ages since they were last changed,'.

While having a bin in the bathroom was important for many women, a man admitted it never occurred to him to use one.

'The only garbage I ever generated inside a bathroom was used toilet paper, to be flushed. I'd occasionally swap out my toothbrush and razor but I'd just toss them in the room bin,' he said.

Spare clean towels

Men who don't have multiple towels - including hand towels to use after you wash your hands - are considered red flags.

'I had someone offer me their single, slightly-damp towel, as my post-shower option. He had no other towels; not a single one. I asked,' a woman revealed.

'If you have overnight guests keep several nice bath towels, wash cloths and hand towels,' she added.

Several claimed while they appreciated tidy homes, the space also 'must' have character.

'The home should look lived in and have evidence of hobbies,' one said. 'Books, gaming set up, model constructions, Legos, puzzles, board games, instruments.'

'I don't like an immaculate house, I like to see some mail out there and if there are few dishes in the sink that's fine. I like to see people who are comfortable enough in themselves to show they are human beings with busy lives,' another added.

Stocked spice racks and food in the fridge are a green flag

Similarly, a specific kind of art on walls is also considered a green flag.

'Empty walls are creepy but walls with generic art for the sake of it feels borderline sociopathic and makes me wonder what mask you're wearing. Anime and nerdy stuff are all preferable to nothing or things that don't tell me anything about you.'

What's the biggest red flag?

Dirty bathroom
No clean towels
Bland home with no character
Empty kitchen because he doesn't cook
Dead house plants
Stocked spice rack and food in the fridge

'Every guy I dated who had an assortment of spices knew how to cook, cooked at home and didn't eat takeout all the time, and didn't expect me to do all the cooking. It was an equitable split,' a woman wrote.

Another said it was essential to have 'sane food' like vegetables and fruit.

'It doesn't matter if you can't cook or can't afford much, you can have a bunch of gremlin food as long as there's some normal stuff to balance it out.'
Real house plants

Many claimed that a man having potted plants at home was a 'green flag' because it showed patience.

'Plants are the next best thing to having a pet. Plants need care, they're alive, and having one (or many) shows that there is a nurturing side to them,' a woman said.
