Weight loss and diabetes jabs taken by more than a million people in the UK have been linked to a potential serious side effect, with some deaths, according to data from the UK medicines regulator.

New figures from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) show the group of drugs that includes Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Ozempic may be associated with inflammation of the pancreas.

According to the MHRA, there have been 181 reported cases of acute or chronic pancreatitis linked to Mounjaro, with five deaths.

Wegovy and Ozempic have now been linked with 113 reports of pancreatitis and one death.

Other, less widely used versions of so-called GLP-1 drugs have also been linked to cases and deaths.

About 1 in 8 adults in the US has used a GLP-1 drug, and of those, around 2 in 5 did so solely to lose weight, according to health policy non-profit KFF in 2024.

The number of facelifts performed in the US jumped 8% between 2022 and 2023, according to ASPS data. The use of hyaluronic acid fillers has meanwhile doubled from 2.6 million Americans in 2017 — the year Ozempic was first cleared for diabetes — to over 5.2 million in 2023.

i'm starting my weight loss journey tomorrow, goal will be 35-40lbs, no shots for me, going to reduce carbs, alcohol and intermittent fasting.  Hopefully it will help with my ED issues to get rid of that extra weight.

Doing the same thing since Februari. Was 89 kilos (196 lbs), currently hovering between 82-84 kilos (180 lbs-185 lbs). Doing intermittent fasting, but looking at what I eat now and used to eat was a big change. Don't get frustrated of discouraged by the number on the scale. A lot of fluids. But you will feel it in other ways.
