The idea of a digital ID or government issued digital currency makes me nervous. Those items would allow whoever issues them and demands that we use them to control two of our most precious freedoms. Check out China.

The Government has responded to calls to scrap the introduction of Digital ID cards across the country, saying that they will be introduced "within this Parliament."

A petition online calling the creation of any national ID system "a step towards mass surveillance and digital control" has gained 2.8 million signatures - prompting a response from the Government.

It comes following the news last week that the Government plans to introduce a new mandatory digital ID system by 2029. The so-called 'BritCard' has been proposed by the Labour government in a bid to tackle illegal immigration.

If approved, every adult in Britain will require the piece of identification to verify their right to live and work in the UK.
