On Tuesday, Yorkshire Water announced a temporary use ban (TUB) on hosepipes that comes into effect from 11 July, restricting their use for watering gardens, filling pools, jet-washing patios, and - importantly for motorists - washing their cars.

It's the first hosepipe ban to be declared this year after the particularly high temperatures seen in recent weeks.

Yorkshire Water's ban comes after the heatwave saw the warmest and driest spring period on record.

It said that the region has had only 15cm of rainfall between February and June – less than half what is expected in an average year.

Yorkshire Water's hosepipe ban affects more than five million people, and applies to customers across Yorkshire, parts of Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

There are around 2.6 million licensed cars in the Yorkshire and Humber region that may have to go dirty as a result of the ban. Flouting the rules could see people fined up to £3,000.

Depents HUGELY on where you are.

Down south it's about 28-34 degrees C this weekend. Here way up in the north, we might get 19 degrees.

It's a drive of around 1800 KM to Oslo (our capital) and around 2400 KM to the southern tip of Norway. Driving, It's 2400 KM from Oslo to Rome.

We live a day drive north of the Arctic Circle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Circle). We live as far north as the northern tip of Alaska and about the middle of Greenland.

Norway is a long country and the climate is very different between the north and the south. In my city, the swimming temperature in the sea is between 7 and 10 degrees C in the hight of the summer.

In other words, there is no single weather report for Norway. It's like reporting the weather in Copenhagen and assume it's the same in Rome. The driving distance between My city and Oslo is the same as Copenhagen to Rome.

In the winter time it's about the same between north and south, but is more differentiated between costal and inland area. By the sea, the humidity blocks the extreme cold, so it varies between around 0 to -15 C. Inland it's usually between 0 and -30 C.

An inaccurate (but still somewhat valid) comparison when it comes to climate: Oslo = Netherland. My city = Alaska.

Thousands of Americans along Alaska's coastline raced to higher ground on Wednesday, abandoning their homes after a major earthquake triggered a tsunami warning.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected a 7.3 magnitude at approximately 12:38pm local time (4:30pm ET), centered in the Pacific Ocean just south of the Alaska Peninsula near the Shumagin Islands, southeast of Sand Point.

Sirens wailed and emergency alerts lit up phones across the region, warning residents across a vast stretch of southwestern Alaska, from Kennedy Entrance near Homer to Unimak Pass near Unalaska, to evacuate immediately.
