City of Los Angeles Emergency Alert: The National Weather Service has forecast that a major storm will impact the City of Los Angeles beginning Tuesday, December 23rd through at least Saturday, December 27th.  The worst of the storm is anticipated on December 24th and 25th. Los Angeles will receive 3-6 inches of rain, with 6-12 inches possible in the mountains and foothills. There is a risk of thunderstorms and debris flow across recent burn scars, where evacuation warnings and orders are in place. Get ready for the storm and take extra precautions during the rain. Impacts in the area could include power outages, debris flows, rapidly rising water in streams and rivers, and flooding on roads and freeways.

Let's hope everybody is where they are supposed to be at the time the storm hits, but it could be a problem getting back home after visiting the family later that night.

Power outages and debris flows along with rapidly rising water does not sound like a good thing.



Holland is forecast to experience its coldest Christmas in 15 years, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing and wind chill making it feel as cold as -10°C in some areas.

A white Christmas (official snow cover on Dec 25 and 26) is still unlikely, but snowflakes are possible due to the low temperatures.

Southern California sees third death from atmospheric river storm drenching region

Some parts of LA saw more than 11in of rain, with flooding, road closures and debris flows reported across the region.

The Los Angeles mayor, Karen Bass, declared a local emergency. "I am urging all Angelenos to stay safe and be extremely careful on the roads if you absolutely must travel. Please do not take this storm lightly – follow official guidance, plan ahead and sign up for emergency alerts," she said.

Coldest Christmas Day since 1994 brought winter's first ice day and overnight frost

Temperatures in De Bilt, the location used as the national benchmark for official weather measurements in the Netherlands, did not rise above zero at any point on Christmas Day.
This marked the winter's first official ice day and made it the coldest Christmas Day since 1994, with Weeronline reporting a peak temperature of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.

This was then followed by the first the first official moderate frost of the winter overnight.
Temperatures in De Bilt fell to minus 5.5 degrees Celsius in the evening hours Thursday leading into Friday.
The previous instance of moderate frost in De Bilt occurred on February 17, when the thermometer reached minus 5.2 degrees.

Met Office issues snow warning as New Year brings Arctic freeze that has sent temperatures plummeting to -8C
The Met Office has issued a 42-hour yellow warning for heavy snow showers and gale-force winds in Scotland from 6am on New Year's Day until the end of Friday.

Britain faces widespread snow today as an Arctic freeze grips the country for up to a week amid fears over travel chaos and temperatures plummeting to -10C.
Yellow warnings for snow and ice were activated this morning for London, southern England, the Midlands and North West as well as Wales and Northern Ireland.

Snow has been falling since yesterday in Scotland but significant accumulations are set to build up from midday there when an amber warning comes into force.
