And I can certainly say no other first date for me could come close to being as memorable as this one was.

Asylum support

You can ask for somewhere to live, a cash allowance or both as an asylum seeker.

Housing
You'll be given somewhere to live if you need it. This could be in a flat, house, hostel or bed and breakfast.

You cannot choose where you live. It's unlikely you'll get to live in London or south-east England.

Cash support
You'll usually get £49.18 for each person in your household. This will help you pay for things you need like food, clothing and toiletries.

Your allowance will be loaded onto a debit card (ASPEN card) each week. You'll be able to use the card to get cash from a cash machine.

If your accommodation provides your meals
You'll get £8.86 for each person in your household instead.

If you've been refused asylum but you're still eligible for support
You'll be given:

somewhere to live
£49.18 per person on a payment card for food, clothing and toiletries (or £8.86 per person if your accommodation provides your meals)
You will not be given:

the payment card if you do not take the offer of somewhere to live
any money
Extra money for mothers and young children
You'll get extra money to buy healthy food if you're pregnant or a mother of a child aged 3 or under. The amount you get will depend on your situation.

Your situation    Extra payment per week
Pregnant mother    £5.25
Baby under 1 year old    £9.50
Child aged 1 to 3    £5.25
Maternity payment
You can apply for a one-off £300 maternity payment if your baby is due in 11 weeks or less, or if your baby is under 6 months old.

Applying for the maternity grant
You apply for the maternity grant in the same way whether you're still an asylum seeker or you've been refused asylum.

You'll need to request form MAT B1 from your doctor to apply for the payment. You can apply for the maternity payment at the same time you apply for asylum support.

If you get pregnant after you've applied for asylum support, you can apply to Migrant Help.

Healthcare
You may get free National Health Service (NHS) healthcare, such as to see a doctor or get hospital treatment.

You'll also get:

free prescriptions for medicine
free dental care for your teeth
free eyesight tests
help paying for glasses
Education
Your children must attend school if they are aged 5 to 17. All state schools are free and your children may be able to get free school meals.

Around 14,000 mobile phones were reported to have been handed out to asylum seekers during the course of the pandemic as immigration staff were unable to interview individuals face to face because of Covid-19 restrictions. However, this was a temporary measure.

For example, it may put this sentence in a better context.
QuoteYou can ask for somewhere to live, a cash allowance or both as an asylum seeker.

It's really not like a shopping list of things they can ask for or get.

The reality - living as an asylum seeker - is grim and, of course, the legislation gives no insight into what it would actually be like.

They are not allowed to work, despite the vast majority coming here to get work.

They cannot claim benefits whilst they are awaiting the outcome of their application.

Most come over to settle with a family member who's already in the UK and also to work and so wouldn't need public housing.

The whole problem is caused by the last successive governments.
They run the country and make all the legislation so there's no excuse for the to be this issue.

The govt:
1. prevents them from working - which stops them from paying tax to Treasury.
2. prevents them from staying with family, causing the taxpayer to pick up the bill for wherever they are accommodated.
3. doesn't process their application for asylum but instead let's it drag on and on, at huge cost to taxpayer, and those seeking asylum can do nothing about it.
4. causes anguish amongst its population, whipped up by media rags like the Mail, Express, Sun and others and distorts the reality of the situation, as if to protect the government.

I've no idea what the new govt will do or whether it will be successful but, if they don't get a grip on it by processing applications and sending back, those who don't qualify, I'll be pissed off too.

Note; I shan't be pissed of with the asylum seekers. I'll be pissed off with a (by then) piss poor government who will be failing in its legal obligations and its basic role in government.

A new guide for doctors is recommending they use terms such as 'chestfeeding' and 'pregnant person' to be more accommodating.

Midwives and gynecologists should swap out 'breastfeeding' and 'mom' and use terms like 'gestational parent' or 'pregnant person,' according to the guidelines, revealed in a new report.

Additionally, 'father' should instead be 'a member of your support team.'

New AI cameras to catch drivers on phone and without seatbelt rolling out across UK
A series of new AI cameras that will be able to detect if a driver is using a mobile phone or if someone in the car is not wearing a seatbelt, are being rolled out by nine UK police forces from next week

Motorists could risk a fine for not wearing a seatbelt if caught on camera.

Drivers could get slapped with a massive fine if new AI cameras catch them using their phones at the wheel. The high-tech gadgets, touted to crackdown on motorists not following rules, are geared up not just to spot phone use - but also to catch those who ditch the seatbelt.

The futuristic tech will see National Highways and a squad of nine police forces put the cameras to the test from next week through to March 2025 in a trial that could change the game, while clamping down on behaviour that could potentially put lives at risk. Patrolling the roads of Durham, Greater Manchester, Humberside, Staffordshire, West Mercia, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire, Norfolk, Thames Valley and Sussex, these cameras mean business.

Crafted to snap footage of moving vehicles, they're all about catching drivers red-handed on their mobile or passengers skimping on safety measures. A couple of snaps are all it takes, to potentially land someone in hot water.

Sainsbury's in Salford is selling mince pies  to customers three months before 25 December.
While some might prefer to get a head start on preparation for the festive period, many of the customers in the Salford branch were unimpressed.
The supermarket isn't the only store to welcome Christmas produce into its aisles, with The Range and Home Bargains  also launching festive ranges.

Police lash out over 'woke' unisex uniforms that cops claim crushes male officers' testicles

Male police officers are complaining their ill-fitting trousers are so tight their manhoods are at risk of being crushed, a new survey from Lancaster University and the Police Federation has revealed.

In 2021 it was reported that the Metropolitan Police - Britain's biggest force - was considering plans to introduce gender-neutral uniforms.

In a press statement, they said: 'This is an exciting opportunity for those wearing uniforms to voice their concerns and influence changes in uniform policies.'

police uniforms and stab vests were traditionally designed by men, for men and tailored to masculine body shapes, which was impacting female officers' performance, health and safety, morale and psychological wellbeing.

However, the current designed trousers appear to be having a similar negative effect on policemen.

police male officers complained of experiencing crushed testicles.

EXCLUSIVE'.....Smaller pints?

It has been a mainstay of British culture for hundreds of years in countless boozers across the country.
But the precious pint has come under threat as scientists are now urging boozers to downsize their glasses amid a battle to reduce the country's alcohol intake.
They claim there has been an increase in the number of alcohol related deaths in the last five years and believe slashing the size of our beloved beverages.
